Transmission: 2nd&4th gear problems

I have a 99 f350 Crew Dually 7.3 and a 4r100... It seems to me like I have no 2nd gear and 4th gear.... I have it in Drive and I go 1st and it stays there so I manually shift 2nd and back to drive and get 3rd and don't feel it shift 4th. I am at 2000 doing about 50mph and so I have come to the conclusion that I may need a shift solenoid on the valve body correct me if I am wrong... What do the Solenoids control and how many are there I know on the Chevy 4t60e or 4l60e there are 2 solenoids for the 4 gears and 1 PWM... is that the same as on the 4r100?

Yes, it's the same in the 4R100. There are two shift solenoids, one PWM for the torque converter clutch, and one pressure control VFS that controls line pressure.

The two shift solenoids control the shift valves. It sounds like you have a bad shift solenoid.

now next question does the same solenoid control 2nd and 4th ? As I see it the solenoids are sold in packs... So you can only by that as a complete unit correct? Funny thing I could still use the truck like this as I have a Gear Vendors on it LOL. But Another thing the truck does is slips 3rd... I can shift 3rd from 2nd and it'll just rev when in full throttle... is this a 2 fold problem?

One shift solenoid is 1 and 3, the other is 2 and 4. But as you alread know you have to change both.

I'm not sure about the second problem, it might be part of the first.
