Found a good deal on an Excursion a month after starting to look for one. Couldn't turn it down.
2001 XLT 4x4 V10 with only 83,000 miles and carpet delete option.
I know the mpg rating is not impressive, but for the safety and towing ability I'm glad to compromise. Already have used this site to improve my other Ford trucks, and now I can start using it for the Excursion. (the search button is a big help on this site)
Plans for now include:
Improve the steering/handling- Thinking better tires and F250 rear springs
Door weatherstripping / tubing fix
Slotted Rotors
Not sure what else to do, but I'll search and see...
Congrats and welcome to the X club!! When you change the springs, do front and back together. You will be amazed at the change in ride quality. The front ones are as bad as the rear. They crush out the bump stops on the front and ride horribly. Yep, lots of mods to do here. These guys just keep on making me spend my money
I did the door seal mod (among many other mods) on my 05 EX and it really stops the doors from rattling while going down bumpy dirt roads (which is where I live). It is low cost and effective.
I have a Word document listing the instructions if you need them. Just send me a message with your email and I'll send it to you.
I have read about the door seal mod, but not sure why it is done? please explain this. OK. I read a post a couple lines up and I guess the doors rattle. I have never heard my doors rattle. does it have to do with mileage? if so I just turned 72k miles.

The rubber trim around the door collapses over time and you could push on the door (closing) while it's closed and feel movement. It rattles as you drive over bumps. Quite annoying. Once you put the tubing inside, it applies pressure outward so it's pushed up against the latch, thus eliminating the rattle.
Yes the door seal mod works... I live on a mile long lime rock road and my doors would rattle. If you only drive on paved roads then you might be ok. But take the truck down a dirt road and you will hear the rattle. After installing the seal mod they have stopped any rattling.
I highly recommend putting ebc green brake pads on your truck along with the slotted rotors. They are a little expensive compared to standard part store pads put you will defiantly agree that they are worth it. I have a fleet of truck for my company and I will only put those pads on all my trucks. Once you put them on when stopping you'll swear your in a explorer not an excursion.
