I was almost run off the road

The fear of diesel smoke may be going a little too far though. I was doing 75 in the passing land of a local interstate when a little red car that was in the middle of three lanes came flying over into my lane and almost hit me. They were swerving out of the black exhaust of an old diesel bus chugging up the right lane! It mighta killed em !

The particulates you can't see are a problem. They are so small that the human respiratory system has no way of keeping them out.
I wonder how many people would be comfortable with me smoking in the same room as their beloved children?
I am not a diesel hater.

Everything gives off particles that cause problems. There is not one single thing in this world that doesn't give off something that is bad for something.

Don't think so, name that one thing that gives off something good for you.

The problem like mentioned is to many people have diesels now days. People that have no need for diesels (high school kids with tuners and office pencil pushers) have diesels, they are everywhere. That is the reason the price of diesel fuel is high, that is the reason for all the EPA stuff cracking down on them. That is the reason I have a 7.3!

The diesel is ruined, people are going back to gas, but eventually diesel will prevail again probably 10-15 years from now.
This was my exact point that I had already stated. Once the emissions stuff is perfected the diesel may reign supreme again. I just thought the link was an interesting piece.

I know, I just sort of got upset a bit reading it though just seeing more control on vehicles which normally makes them worse for a long time.

I'm just glad I got my 7.3 when I did and will have it for a long long time.

That is why the 7.3's and the 5.9's will be like the old muscle cars of the 60's and 70's. Easy to hot rod and not much restrictions. I will keep both of mine

Yep. Years ago, when in the military, I found it was going to be cheaper to ruin a cat than to go thru the hoops the EPA wanted before shipping a car to a country that had no unleaded gas.

Sorry, give us a link or it ain't true. I have read a lot taking the opposite side of the fence.

So why is JEEP introducing a diesel engine next year?

This is exactly why I am so torn getting rid of my 7.3! I need a truck to pull my trailer and an 08+ is rated to pull it. But I could modify my 7.3 enough to pull it and feel safe doing so .... Not that I want it blowing black smoke when I tow, just not having all the restrictions on what I can do. I agree that just a drive around truck billowing black smoke is ridiculous. Mine is a daily driver as well and I want it to be as clean as I can because that is less pollution and it gets better mpg and power. Who knows ... maybe if I hold out someone will want to swap an 08 for my 01 so they don't have all the restrictions!

That wouldn't be a fair trade, I'd ask for some cash too.
