PSD Driver's unsolicited Advice
I was the only person in the restuarant when a man and his wife came in. They ordered and the husband while filling his drink asks, "That your '05 out there?" I proudly say "Yes Sir." Then he asks "What kind of mileage you get?" I say around 12 mixed driving. Until then I didn't realise he was driving an oil burner. He says "I'm getting 18 freeway with mine." So I look up and sure enough there's a Crew Cab, Long Bed, King Ranch PSD in the parking lot. (Suprised I didn't hear him pull up
) So not really wanting to get into this discussion again. I mean I read this forum almost daily, I know all the arguements. Anyway he wouldn't let up so I ask, "Does it smell like Diesel?" and before he can answer his wife says "YES". I smile, and say " bet it sounds like a diesel too." Of course they start the "It doesn't smell that bad, it isn't that loud." Then the husband said, "People need to change their attitude toward diesels. If you want to save money diesel is the way to go." My order came up then and I grabbed my bag as I said, "So you bought a $45K-$50K truck to save money?" I smiled as I opened the door and said "Good luck with that." I think it's funny that they second guess their purchase of the PSD so much that they feel the need to justify it to me. I did the research and bought exactly the truck I wanted and needed. I would hope they did the same. Anyway I thought I should pass on this bit of wisdom so that you guys can all meet me at the ford dealer today to trade our V10's in on PSD's. NOT!!

BSEG's all around boys.

Brian
Will history brand them "lemon sixes" or the "sick litre" only time will tell but it would not surprize me if in 5 years our V10's will bring better resale than the infamous
sick litre. Batten down the hatches boys, the stink gang should be posting quick. LOL take care , and good story about a rude PSD guy. Us V-tenners , like our trucks are too refined to ever act that way in public. Take care, Wrench.
I am driving a 99 V-10, its my daily driver plus work horse, when i use my truck on the farm, and if i had to do it all over agian i would have never traded my 96 stoker in for a v-10, this v-10 is not near the motor that the powerstroke was, and the noise of the diesel, so what turn the radio up, listen to the purr of the motor, it sounded a lot better at 1800 rpms then this v-10 does at 3500 rpms, just rying to do the same job.
my good deal i got sure wasnt what i thought i was getting, if you keep a truck 200000 milesthe diesel is the best, but if your trade every year, the i dont know what the hell it matters cause it sure isnt about money anyway.
so drive what you want and the diesel boys sure aint going to support the oil company anymore then they hafto.
Anyways, I do talk to alot of guys who own trucks, but are not like the guys on this forum in that we are alot more knowledable about trucks than the "average" pickup owners. Not an insult to them-alot of guys just buy a truck for work as a daily driver and put no more thought into it than how much it costs and whether or not it runs. That's all fine. Not everyone looks at their truck as a "hobby" or hangs out on internet fourms to share info about them.
But it seems that even in conversation with these casual truck owners I hear them calling the 6.0L a "lemon" even though they don't own one and aren't brand loyal or even gas vs diesel loyal. They just hear stuff from various sources and sooner later they form an opinion. Just like everyone knows GM has problems with CSK and everybody knows Dodge trannys suck. Everybody knows the 6.0L's reliability reputation and it ain't good. Hell, it may not even be true but it don't matter. It's what the public percieves to be true and I think that will drive the future resale $$ for them down in the future. Espcially if Ford releases a new diesel in the next few years. They'll all know the 7.3L is a gem but avoid the 6.0L if you're buying used!
On the other hand, from what I can tell the public has a good opinion of the V10. It's hampered a little by the plug blowing issue but most of them have the impression the problem was fixed after the first year and the 2005 V10 is really getting talked up!
I never owned a diesel before. I run and service plenty of them at work. Mostly small 3 and 4 cyl inline engine and all of them Japanese. I new what the gas engine was all about. The strenths and weakness of both engines. The V10 best fit my needs. I will never never never own a truck past 100k miles. I just put too many liles on them I need dependability of a newer vehicle. I like heavy duty truck for the time I load the bed with a pallet of stone or a few square of shingles.
I know I really made the right decision. When I baught the truck I knew there was something special about it. It was a stange feeling that for a long time I didn't know what it was. Then one day I saw on here "BSEG" BINGO that was it exactly. I really like the looks of other drivers when they pull beside and glace at the badge that says "TRITON V10" then they look at me with a smile.
Guy, drive what you want. Get what ever engine you want. What vehicle and engine that fits your needs.....that's the one to get.
Just think of this. When another Super Duty owner busts some chops over the powerplant......just be glad it's another SUPER DUTY.....hads down the BEST truck on the road today.
My trucks are like my children......that's because I don't have kids. Other than just a fat chocolate lab. I take care of them like you would not believe. When I trade my trucks in, the dealer cannot belive the condition. Infact I had a 1997 GMC 1500 that I bought new. Drove it for 5 years and put about 85k miles on it. Went back to the dealer I baught it from.....same saleman and everything. Could not believe the condition. Paid $21500 for it in 1997. Trade it in for $17900 5 years later. When I picked up my new truck they were pushing a 2000 caddy out of the showroom to put my 5 year ond truck in.
My trucks are a big part of me and my life. That's what FTE is for right?
Remember a PSD and V10 are both Ford's and american made.
Duramax???????????? Izuzu?????????????
GIVE ME A BREAK! A good engine I know........but in a american truck? Forgetaboudit!
Well actually PSD s are Navistar Engines ( International) and yes they are American made. The V10s are built by Ford in Canada but not to worry , Canadian tradesmen are as good as any in the world. Take care, Wrenchtraveller.
i'm always getting ripped about the v10 even some old bittie gave me a hard time about the v10. i asked if her civic could tow my boat and left the gas station.
the only thing i will say is a ford is a ford is a ford. who cares whats under the hood other then the owner.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

With the bottomless sticky clay goo soil we have around here, every farmer & rancher has at least two trucks- a diesel for the roads and a gasser for "field chores". Takes the Summer 'drought' for the soil to crust over enough to support the weight of a diesel. So, even those guys don't have anything bad to say about my trucks.
