I have a '98 Ranger / supercab / 4.0 / 4x4. I absolutely love the truck, but every once in a while it likes to scare the pants off me. It doesn't have an alarm, just the panic button on the keychain, and every once in a while it just goes off. I'm always nearby with the keys in my pocket, so my best guess is that while I'm moving around one of the other keys in my pocket presses down on the panic button. It happened this morning as I was leaving for work at 5:30 am, and I'm sure my neighbors didn't care much for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to disconnect the panic alarm function? I've owned the truck now for 2 years, and I've never even pressed the button (at least not intentionally), so I don't really need it.
I don't like that panic button feature, either. All it ever does is scare the he** out of me when I least expect it, and usually at an awkward moment. I never thought about modifying the key part of it. I have a spare remote/key and a little glue on the panic button might be in order. If it works good I'll do the original. Thanks guys.
P.S. Super, how's the new Taurus been treating you and your wife? You should drop by the new 3.0L Forum sometime and tell us about all the mods you've been doing behind her back
Taped mine up with 2 or 3 wraps of electrical tape. Super Glue is ok, if you want it PERMANENT, but if you plan to use it someday, it could come in handy, ya know...
Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up wrapping a few neatly cut pieces of black duct tape around the remote over the button. I didn't want it to be permanent in case the day comes that I decide to sell it. The tape makes it harder to get the alarm to go off, so hopefully this will do the trick.
