well fellas. i am very very pleased to announce that we got the transmission AND transfer case installed today, the cross member under it with some persuasion, and just gotta go back tomorrow to finish tightening the crossmember down and attatch the rear driveshaft and hopefully she'll be road worthy, gotta pick me up another battery. praying nothing is in or on wrong or too loose. we'll see though! thanks for all yall's help.
Good to hear, keep us posted. It always feels good to get the heavy part of a job out of the way. Then all the little stuff seems to take forever since you just want to drive it.
You aint lyin about the little stuff. getting the shifters back in, didn't even bolt the shifter boots back down yet haha. took the ol gal a while to start after sitting for 2 or 3 weeks. and the glow plug relay is shot, but we put her on the block heater for an hour or 2 and she fired up after a few trys. drove her to put some fuel in and to mcdonalds and she shifted fine and ran great. no more rollover sound, no more sticking shifter. great feeling to get the job done!
a little late on this, but when i swapped auto to manual, putting in the manual was nearly impossible EVEN with a transmission jack. Just couldnt get it to angle properly, dont know why. My dad and I used a come along jack, looped a tow strap over the roof of the truck and stuck the come along on the loop and made a little cradle out of another tow strap to scradle the trans. he worked it from in the cab, while i maneuvered the trans into position under neath. Took like 15 mins vs the hours of cursing with the jack. I should probably sell that trans jack..
yeah we just managed to get it under there this time with the jack somehow. lots of praying i suppose. we just used a ratchet strap to secure it to the jack and jacked the front of the engine up, the rear of the truck for more room, and it just somehow went right in this time, took 10 mins maybe. really happy with it. i can hear diesel power now instead of a winding up input shaft bearing. yes!
