91 F150 Clutch Replacement
This is the first time I've done a clutch replacement and I'm having trouble getting the transmission back on (clucth disk is aligned) and I've been trying for a few days. This is my first post and I just wanted to see if anyone might have some tips to make it easier. If it helps, the transmission is a M50DR2 and has an internal slave cylinder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The clutch itself is aligned, but the splines one the input shaft also need to be aligned with the clutch disc. The only way to do that is by trial and error, while holding it up there and applying forward force to it, try turning the output shaft with the tranny in gear. Also, look at the bellhousing from below and from the side relative to the motor. make sure that your gaps all the way around are about the same by matching the angles of the tranny and motor. Other than that, have another person help you so you can manhandle the tranny better, gently wiggling, pushing and twisting are all acceptable and easier with two people. Other than that, there is no special trick to make it slide in super easy, and lube the input shaft aswell.

The clutch alignment tool comes with the clutch kit, and should be fairly accurate. After the clutch is all installed on the motor, feel in the gaps on the edges of the pressure plate to make sure that the clutch disc is actually centered. When you align the clutch using the tool, make sure that you push in hard and square and keep pressure on the tool while tightening the clutch to insure as much accuracy as possible. Good luck, and they are always difficult, no matter how many you do.
