I have a 2000 F250 Crew cab Diesel 4x4. I have been told that I should change my exhaust to straight back, no muffler, dual independent pipes. Will get any benefit from removing the muffler and making the exhaust dual and independent from each other?
There is no way to make it truly independent due to the downpipe. You would have to use a Y pipe. What are you trying to achieve? I personally am going with a 4" no muffler for my excursion.
I am not trying to accomplish anything. I friend has a truck like mine and he eliminated his muffler and said he gets more power and better economy. He then said that he was advised to split the exhaust. So I am simply seeking advice.
Thank you for responding
From what I've gathered you don't gain much power. However removing the muffler and going with a 4" and a HFO you'll see a decrease in EGT's and a slight bump in power. Adding a Y pipe will probably create the same EGT's as a stock system.
Splitting the exhaust does NOTHING for performance or economy because you still have a single outlet from the engine.. Your turbo. As far as the muffler, you can add it or remove it. You will never feel the difference in the pedal or economy.
Like others have already said, the only way to get true dual exhaust is to add another turbo.
Removing the muffler makes your truck louder.....that is all it does. There are no other benefits. My wife's truck had it's muffler removed by the previous owner. It's the loudest and most lethargic truck in our group. Also gets the worst fuel economy.
