fuel door style conversion

fuel door style conversion
Quick question. How would i go about converting over to a fuel door style bed? Cut out and weld the new style in? If so where do i get the parts? Its hard enough to find a bed that someone is willing to part out so new would be needed

Yes on the cut out and weld in idea, it worked for a buddy. You can get the gas flap, inner plastic cup and surrounding sheet metal from a JY.
Measure x3, cut once in your bed, remember to cut yourself lost of spare metal around your donor flap when you hit the JY.
If none around sounds like a fellow FTE member has you hooked up.

I'm looking at trying to put an 87-96/97 fuel door in since I don't like the plastic inner "tray" thing like the 70's & 80's fuel doors have. I'm not 100% sure how it'll fit bed contour wise but it looks really close in the minimal time I've spent looking at it thus far. These fuel doors seem a lot easier to find for me so locating parts if you go this way might work.
Also if the plastic deal doesn't bug you like it bugs me the fuel door, hinge, etc. out of an 80's truck might work well for you too.
