Does your engine stall out in that manner when it is idling? I have had 2 TFI (ignition control) modules fail on me. Each one would drop spark to the engine while at cruise speed, and the engine would surge after the spark recovered. With each one, within a few weeks, the engine would begin to drop out, the spark would recover, and the engine would surge but also at a stop or idling. There were a few times at a stoplight the car almost ran out into the intersection. The computer would gun the engine after the TFI dropped, then recovered spark to the engine. There is no fail code for these TFI's. You can test them at a store, but it will not be at operating temperature when testing it, so it could show good and fail at temperature.

look out the side mirror when it stutters and i bet you'll see black smoke from the tailpipe. it's the dreaded BII disease! there is some signal going to the computer after it warms up and goes into closed loop. problem is figuring out what's causing it. vacuum leaks and poor grounds are common. if you had work done on the trans and the ground strap by the trans filler tube (if auto) wasn't reconnected, the that's your problem.
