Crew cab differences and info help

Ill be picking up a 66 crew cab shortly and looking for some info on it. Guy that has it doesn't know much about older fords and can only provide me with what he was told. See if I can word this so it makes sense. When looking at the cab the center pillar between the front and rear doors the pillar tapers down half way down the door around the bottom of the window it stops and the door edges are all that you can see the rest of the way down. From looking at pics all are like this guy said the ones made like this are for rail road navy logging ect but most crews were used for that back then. Were the slick crews made in 2 styles? One with the pillar the whole way down to the rockers and another style that only gos down half way he said it makes it more rare or was he just miss informed and they were all made the same? I Don't know much on the slick crews know more on the bump sides

Mid year 1965, Ford began assembling their own Crew Cabs, but like the aftermarket Crews, were converted from Regular Cabs, ditto the Bumpsides.

1973 was the first year that FoMoCo actually made 'true' Crew Cabs from 'scratch.'

Early 1965's were made by Crown Coach, have exposed rear door hinges, different shaped rear door window frames than the Ford 'conversions.'

Even though Ford offered their own Crews beginning mid-year 1965, aftermarket bodymakers continued to do conversions and still do today.

There are no specific Crew Cab parts listed in Ford Truck Parts Catalogs until 1973. AFAIK, all mid 1965's, 1966/79 Crews were assembled at the Oakville Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant.

1961/1980: The 5th digit of the VIN is the assembly plant code: C = Oakville.

FTE member garbz2 knows more about these early Crew Cabs than any other FTE member.

Thanks ND you wouldn't happen to have any pics to show the two kinds assembled window frame differences. Problem with this truck is it looks like the PO used front doors and cut them and started to tack weld back together to use as rear doors also during this they made them into suicide rear doors so I can't say if the hinges were exposed or not. I believe it's a 66 but can't say for sure as the front doors and front clip were in a different storage place so I couldn't get the vin yet. Next question is what's its value? Are slicks typically more then the bump sides go for? It's on a 70's 2wd super cab frame all redone and painted the cab needs acouple small patches yet mostly rear doors need finished fitting and welded also figure out the suicide door latch. Underside of cab and floor are painted so its just the outside that needs painted and the bed was cut down to a 4 or 5ft bed to fit on the super cab frame needs the bodywork finished on it yet what would you's all value it at?

No pictures, ask Dave (garbz2) if he has any. Tripleframe may have actual factory photos from the Fleet Salesman Data Books.

** This is the same way the aftermarket/Ford conversions were made. They took front doors, modified them so they could be used as rear doors.

I haven't a clue as to value, these trucks are only worth what people are willing to pay for them.

** The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN / 1965 serial number range: 580,001-731,999 / 1966 serial number range: 732,000-913,999.

Are you getting this truck in York Pa?

I have plenty of pictures of this truck. It is not on a supercab frame. It is a crown conversion. I bought just the cab and doors at Carlisle and parts and pieced the rest.

Hinges are internal and on the rear pillar. and yes i made some new doors that followed the unibody lines. It also had a full center console on the roof.

Truck was about 1/3 finished but i could not take it with me to Arizona.

I sold it for $1500 in 2006.

There were many companies who specialized in conversions, this one was one of the best. The quality of workmanship meet or exceeded Fords own standards.

Running boards were not on this truck because it came out of a Ford assembly plant without them. Believe it or not, running boards were optional in '61, became standard in '62. I am sure this company could stretch a pair of running boards as well.

Looks better without them. Less functional though.

Got an update I'm now the new owner of this 66 crew got it home yesterday and cleaned out the interior it was filled with abunch of parts got them all out and cleaned all the dirt/dust out from sitting for years also got the rats nest out of the rear cab mounts got a pile of seat stuffing out. Also hung the passenger side front door need to find a drivers side door thought I had an extra but turns out it was a passenger door. Got some pics of it I'm thinking about starting a build thread. I have a 460 and a zf5 trans I'm thinking about using for it. Originally got it for my 71 crew but I put a 12 valve in it instead. So mise well use it in this build.
