starter??

06, 190K. went to start my truck yesterday and the first couple times i tried it just gave one click, started on 3rd try. then today same thing. temperature dropped yesterday to about -20*C and remaims about the same today, would that have something to do with it?? Battery connections good. I'm thinking starter solenoid which i believe is built into the starter, am i right??

Right, the solenoid is mounted to the starter.

If you're sure the cables and connections are clean then most likely you have a failing solenoid or weak batteries.

Both can be tested at any parts store.

There was a discussion about a week ago on this and the conclusion was no, you cannot buy just the solenoid (easily anyways) but you can get a rebuild kit that includes new contacts etc.

Those symptoms can easily be dead batteries, but most likely I would say bad solenoid.

I would have the batteries load tested (seperately) and the starter. Also verify condition of the cables.

With the GP light on or while trying to crank?

I see about 11.0 volts with initial key on with GP cycling and the injectors buzzing, after the buzzing it is about 11.2 volts or so.

That is at the OBD port using DashBoss.

Also those numbers are at about 20-25 degree fahrenheit.

Load test them batteries asap. They need to be charged up individually first to properly test them. Should be at-least 11.x on GPS, no matter how cold. Your starter may still be weak but you are definitely being hard on FICM with those lower voltages, it has to make up with increased current which melts them bad......
