Starter issues?

My truck failed to start today after work, tried jumping the solenoid on the fender, got nothing but a click.. Battery voltage is good. Removed starter and took it to the parts store, it failed the first bench test and passed the second and third??? I also had a weird start this AM, turned the key, it hesitated then turned over and started. Wondering if this could be the solenoid on the starter? Going to try re installing it in the morning as is. Any other ideas?

As you know those starters can give false life.Mine did one time.I took it to a fella that rebuilds them with heavy duty parts and it has been good ever since.I believe in having them rebuilt by a ''starter/alternator''shop.You will get better rebuilds.

I took the starter in last night and had it tested. Failed the first test and passed the secnd and third. Re installed it this morning and all I get is a click. Going to try replacing the fender mounted solenoid today anit that doesn't work I'll replace the starter.

This would be typical of a starter with very worn brushes only making marginal contact to the commutator.

Were the starter bolts tight to the block? They are known to back out and you will lose your ground.

You said that you are changing your solenoid on the fender, I think there is one on the starter also.

Changed the solenoid on the fender, didn't expect it to fix it but for 12 dollars why not?

Bolts were all tight, looks like the DB starter bug got to me finally.

Going to have both starters I have rebuilt so there is a spare around just in case.
