ABS brake vibration

I need you guys expert advice again. I have a 2000 F150 with pretty much The Works in options. Recently I have noticed a thumping vibration in the front suspension when I apply the brakes. Most guys are telling me it is a natural phenonemon of ABS. If thats the case, why didn't I feel that vibration right after I bought the truck, over 2 years ago. I hope some of you mechanical geniuses can give me a clue to what is going on.
Thank You

ABS brake vibration

HI BossHawg and welcome to FTE

During normal braking you should feel no difference between ABS or non ABS brakes. If you're applying the brakes hard enough to lock up the tires and for the ABS to kick in, you will notice the thumping/pulsating but not during normal braking.
Could it be as simple as warped rotors? I think that's what I'd put my money on.

OK, thanks for the responses. No, I haven't been off-roading.
Sounds like I need to take it in for a check up.
Thanks again!

ABS brake vibration

Boss, did you find out what the problem was? I put ceramic pads on my '99 this past weekend. Rotors turned, bearings packed, even replaced the anti-rattle clips (after thump began). The thump started as soon as it was lowered from the jack stands. Does it once a revolution and only going forward. Thump is synchronous with speed. Reseated the rotor today and replaced clips; seems to be the outer pad slipping but not sure.

If you find out let me know. Sorry for the length.

nldj, No I havent had time to take it in to a certified mechanic, as yet. Everyone I talk to at work says its probably a warped rotor. Man, this truck only has 21,000 miles on it. I cant quite believe brakes would wear out that fast. Im wondering if it has something to do with the front 4X4. We had a really snowy winter this past year, and my 4X4 was engaged a good bit of the time. You are supposed to back up about 10 feet after you disengage 4X4, right? How do you know if the front actually disengaged?
Thanks,
BossHawg

Thanks Boss. Sorry I can't help with the 4x4. Warped rotor, however, would seem to make sense with brakes heating up in snow. Good luck

Thanks Jimmy, I will seriously consider manual locks. In the meantime, I will be getting my truck checked out by a certified mechanic within the next week, to find out what the problem is. I will be back to let nldj know what I found out.
Thanks,
BossHawg

Boss, the problem was the ceramic pads. I still had pad left from my old shoes and decided to eliminate the shoes as a variable. I was shocked when the thump went away. I believe it was just those particular pads. The guy at NAPA pulled an identidal box to compare with my pads. While the shoes were the same, the numbers stamped on the pads did not match, the new shoes had the shims already attached and the new box had a hardware kit with it that mine did not. I'm going to run the old pads since there is some left. Turning the rotors fixed the vibration that caused me to change the brakes to begin with. Sorry for the length and good luck with yours.

Thanks for letting us know what happened.
There can be quite a difference in materials on brake pads.

Had my truck checked out today, and I'm somewhat embarassed. The problem was merely well worn pads chewing up the rotors. After new pads and turning the rotors, the vibration is gone.
Thanks for all your help and insight, fellows, and you all have a great summer.
