Draining my converter?

Is the converter on my 90' F-150 drainable? I was going to remove the pan to replace the filter but wanted to know if the converter could be drained so that I may calculate the amout of fluid to buy. Thanks

Better to read how much fluid it takes in the Haynes manual. Yours could have leaked or been overfilled, and you certainly won't get every drop anyway. If it has a drain, it'll be on the front (facing the engine) and you'll see it in the access hole on the front bottom of the bellhousing if you rotate the engine slowly to bring it down there.

I don't have a manual that is why I am asking. I wanted to know before I got down there and started taking things off!

Draining my converter?

I just drained the converter on my 92 F150 E4OD 4x4 this past weekend and it took 15 quarts, you may be less if you have 2WD as the pan is shallower.

On that note, at first add 6-7 quarts then run it for 10-15 min then add another 4, run it 10 min, check it, then add 1 at a time checking in between til you get to the proper level.

Also, if you haven't done so install a drainplug on your pan, it's such a no brainer that it fry's me that Ford hasn't done it stock, no matter what their #@$@$% excuse is.

The ????? is where do get a drainplug. I ordered one when I ordered my shift kit and MLPS but NAPA may have one.

Install is easy, for mine it was just drilling a 1/2" hole thru the pan(on an E4OD deep pan there's a depression on one side), the metal is soft and drills easily, then just bolt on the drainplug, clean up the metal shavings and you're set, about a 5 min job.
