Now, I'm confused. What is the issue? Is it hard to place the transmission into gear when the engine is running or when it's not running? Are you having issues with shifting gears. With the vehicle moving, how difficult is it to shift from 1st to 2nd gear smoothly? What happens when you attempt to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear? You indicate that you can't "feel" 3rd or 4th gears. Does this mean you can't properly feel the detent that is supposed to prevent you from moving the shifter one gate too far to the right and selecting 5th gear as opposed to 3rd? Or are you trying to tell us that it simply won't engage 3rd or 4th gears?
Understand that without the vehicle physically present, it's hard for me to interpret the issue you have. How much pedal free play do you have? If the free play is excessive, I would be questioning the condition of the hydraulic circuit between the clutch master and slave cylinders. By the way, I consider the hydraulic system on these trucks as a one-piece unit, since you can buy the kit all as one with the clutch master cylinder, reservoir, line and slave cylinder as one entire sealed unit with fluid in it.
Blade with the tranny being almost complety empty of fliuid because the dump a**** at the auction just tried to crimp the end of the lines going to the radiator and with the truck being moved around and with me just fixing the lines and putting in a new external trans cooler could I have not put in enough tranny fluid . I have put seven quarts in it.

Think again, the book spec for this transmission is only 5.8 quarts of Dexron (or Mercon V since Dexron is obsolete) automatic transmission fluid exactly.
M-chan
I put the spec about and after i went up and down the street in first and sec I let it sit and checked the fill hole and it was a quart below the fill hole. I was told by several mech that is how you fill it. If I did something wrong let me know I was just doing it the way I was enfromed to do it
