I have a 1984 Ford f150 with a 351 windsor high output in looking to get more horsepower out of it for cheap, like $500 at a time max can someone help me out.with some advice?
Do a complete exhaust system including headers on it first, that alone will make so much difference the carb will have to be rejetted. Then put heads on it, the stockers are low compression smog era anchors so anything you buy from an aftermarket supplier will be better. This motor already has a pretty good cam it so you don't really need to go inside to make horsepower.
I'm going to go out on a limb vs everyone else and suggest changing the rearend ratio first. It's got a tag bolted to it on one of the rear cover bolts, the ratio it's got is stamped into the tag near the bolt head. It's likely got 3.08, changing that to a 373 gear will do wonders, it'll be like night and day. If you don't want to change the gears, then look for another rear that's got 3.55's, and swap out the whole rearend. That too will wake it up.
3.08s in a 351HO truck? Unlikely but I suppose it's possible and if it were the case I'd agree with you a gear change would be one of the best upgrades possible.

Yea, you never know, Ford's always been notorious about saddling vehicles with steep rear gears. The 95 I went thru and sold recently had 3.08's behind it's 351, and it left a LOT to be desired in the get up and go department.
