Anybody know what the horsepower gains are for JBA headers?
I have a 1998 f150 4x4 with 4.6 engine, k&n intake and hypertech programmer. Still need more hp. I have local JBA dealer telling me it's about 12 hp gain and another dealer saying it's 20 hp. At a cost of $622.00 I will only get them if the hp gain is around 20.
I am sure there are better headers out there but these are only one's I could find for my truck that are emmission legal.
I'm not sure about the horsepower gain. I'm kinda looking for a set of shorty headers myself. Look around at proficientperformance.com. That's where I've been doing most of my looking. I'm sure that there's got to be more than one emissions legal one for your truck...just keep looking.
Most shorty headres are emmission legal. The long tube headers make the best power and are not legal because they displave the 02 sensors. I will tell you that the HP gains are in the higher rpm bands only. I have a full exhaust system on my rig. Headers, all new pipes, y pipes, muffer, and tailpipe. I got the banks kit that already had bungs inplace to reinsert the 02 sensors. I live in Massachusetts where emmissions are as strict as california. I just got a sitcker this morning with no problems.
The headers made no real difference in every day driving. When I tow are push the engine past 3000 rpm......well lest just say it screams and the power is there. Just make sure you can get the air into the engine as fast as the headers and freeflowing exhaust can take it away.

I installed a set of ceramic coated JBA headers on my 95 351 Bronco. The ceramic coating does make a difference in reducing underhood temps. I recommend the ceramic coating on the headers you choose.
