I have a 290k mile 7.3 and there is a leak coming what looks like from somewhere above the starter where the transmission bolts to the engine. I'm sure there is someone here who has tackled one of these a time or two!
What year truck? What are you leaking? Is it oil or fuel? There is a 'drain hole' on top of the engine that will allow fuel/oil to drain off that leaks from the top of the engine. Climb up top of the engine while it is off and see if there is liquid down it the valley of the engine. A problem this time of year (cold) is that o-rings on the drain valve will contract and allow fuel to drain out into the hose. Some will go down the tube and some will go around the tube and drain into the valley.
Need more info. There are a few things on top that will leak down on either side. The fuel line has a fitting with a rubber sleeve on the passenger side, rear of head. The line itself will leak further toward the front of the motor and will leak down around the starter. The fuel bowl, hpop lines, orings.
Need a good cleanup and start looking.

It is a 2000. It's definately oil. I will check the various things you have told me and will check back in.

I am sure it is coming from somewhere in the valley. It could be the turbo pedestal, HPOP, IPR, or even the oil rail plugs on the back side of the engine.

I looked in the valley and it is very oily. I'm going to degrease it and make sure that is where it's coming from. I'll be back here soon with more info.
