I noticed that when I step on the brake my hazard light stop flashing. I can understand that the lights wouldn't flash at the back since it's the same filament, but why are the front one not working?
I drive a 76 ford f250. Other than that, the rest of the lights are perfectly fine.
is there any other odd things going on, like blinker indicator lights lit all the time, or etc. my 75 f-250 was acting strange and changed blinker switch under steering wheel and everything worked great.
The lights stop flashing in the rear and the front when you step on the brake, because you are putting 12v on the same wire the hazard flasher is using to drive all the lights. You notice they stay on correct? That's the 12v from the brake switch.
The flasher for the hazards is much the same as the turnsignal flasher. 12v in, blinking 12v out on one wire. The hazard switch takes all the wires going to the bulbs and disconnects them from their original sources, and puts them all on the flasher. But they usually cheat on the rear lights, and use the one brake switch input to the turnsignal switch to drive the rear lights. That's where the problem comes in when you hit the brake pedal. They all do it.
The flasher lights in the dash stay on when I apply the brake, but everything goes back to normal when I release the pedal. There was a spare turning signal harness when I bought the truck, perhaps it's the problem! I didn't want to change it just for the sake of changing it.
I think you're right, we must have post it almost at the same time. Thanks. All i have to do is stay out of trouble so i don't have to use the hazard light.
yeah, just keep the truck moving at speed and you'll be fine. its a design thing. we aren't supposed to need the 4-ways unless we're already stopped and in park anyway - or that must have been the theory of the engineers
If you have a legtimate concern and your truck has a special use that you need some some sort of hazard warning system, you can buy a aftermarket strobe system, usually on ebay, pretty reasonable. Whelen is one of the cadillac's of those systems, but they are not cheap.
