Brake lights

My brake lights and emergency flashers aren't working. I perused several threads on this, but most found no power at the brake light switch. I have 12 volts at the switch and the flasher clicks under the dash, just doesn't make it to the tail lights.

What do you guys think, ground somewhere?

Do you also have 12v out of the brake light switch?
The flasher clicking is it for 4 way or tune sig? There are 2 different flashers, 1 for 4 way & 1 for turn sig.
Front 4 way lights working and just the rear does not?
Do you have turn sig lights out back? How about up front?
Have you replaced the bulbs out back?
Some times the turn sig switch can be a cause for rear brake & turn lights not to work. Try moving the switch back & forth a bunch and see if the lights start to work.

I should have provided more information, my bad guys.

All front lights work, as do turn signals, and brake lights. I verified that both, separate flashers are working for hazards and turn signal. Two separate.

I just simply dont have brake lights and hazards. All fuses checked out, and brake light switch is new. I'm lost!

truck is a 67 swb v8 auto.

Say what?
I don't under stand what is or is not working here to be able to help.
So do you or don't you have rear brake and / or turn lights?
When do lights work or do not work?

Again just trying to figure out what it is you need help on?
I cant even guess as I don't know what you are asking.

oops! I meant tail lights are working, just no brake lights. Must have been speed typing that last post.

So, tail lights work when headlights are on, as do turn signals. No brake light function, no hazard function, although the switch is new.

LOL speed typing, is that your story and you sticking to it? LOL

Ok so we have tail / running lights & turn signal lights out back just not brake or 4 way lights out back.
You said you have power into the brake light switch, do you have power out of the switch?
If so you need to find that same color wire at the plug for the turn sig switch and see if you have power there as the brake light wire goes to the turn sig switch and detects when the rear lights should blink (turn sig) or not (brake) .
You will also need to find what wire is power to the 4 way switch and what wire is out of that switch to the turn sig switch and test each wire to see what is going on.

Did you say the turn signal switch is new? Did you have to pull the wires out of the plug to feed them up thru the column? If so maybe you got some of the wires crossed?
Or that new turn signal switch is NG.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! haha

The brake light switch at the pedal is new, not the turn signal switch.

I checked and I am getting 12v in to the switch, and nothing out. I pushed the pedal in and got 12v out. Is that how that is supposed to work?

Yes that is just how it works.
Now try and trace that wire to the turn signal switch plug and see if you get power on both sides of the plug.
Being the turn signal switch is not new I am going to bet it is the turn signal switch.
BUT
Did you get power from the brake light switch to both sides of the plug? If yes can you remove the wheel, it will have to come off to replace the switch any way, and see if you get power on that wire up top side of the switch.
Get some electrical contact cleaner and spray the turn switch and move the lever left & right a bunch of times and see if that helps.
Do the same for the 4 way switch but I think the issue is with the turn switch.
If not then you will need to replace the turn signal switch.

I may just go ahead and order a new turn signal switch and put it in. I have two plugs coming out of my column. One has 2 wires, which didn't have an effect on turn signal function when I unplugged that connector. The other connector had 5 wires, and turn signal function stopped when I unplugged that connector. Lot's of wires to go through that to determine if the turn signal switch is the culprit, and I hate wiring lol

I've been wanting a new steering wheel anyway, may kill two birds while I'm at it. Thanks for all your help, Dave! I'll report back once a new switch gets here.

When you unplugged the 2 wires did you try the horn? I think that's what they were to.
Good luck on the switch & wheel change and let us know how it turns out.

The two wires in that plug are for the rear lamps #283 and #282.

Horn is the blue wire in the turn signal plug. It is just a single wire, as it is a ground source for the horn relay on the inner fender next to the battery.
