If I didn't have such deep roots and attachments here, I'd be up in the Cascades somewhere around Sisters, La Pine or Chemult so fast, OSP would be still looking for the person who burned up the highway next year!

I hear ya'.........Kinda cold in those places, though. Spring takes a while to get hold in LaPine, I know, I been there.........Brrrrr!
The attraction here in the mid/upper McKenzie valley is "above the fog, below the snow" we got a banana belt goin' on here!
Morning everyone, nice sunny day up here in the John Day Valley 30 degrees starting this morning snd going up to the 60's. No thanks on living in the valley to much rain for me.

My only problem with your area is that you are still just a little too close to the P.R.E. and Sisters is a little close to Bend. My cousin has a house in La Pine, but they are only part time residents. If his wife had her way they would live up there all the time. I can live with snow. I may gripe about it, but I can live with it! My wife and snow, well that is another story.....................
I'll never forget when they actually filed a lawsuit to try and take over all of the power generators on the N. Umpqua River. These supplied a lion's share of the power to central Douglas County as well as a lot of other areas of Douglas County. PRE was trying to claim "eminent domain" over them saying their need outweighed the interest of the people of Douglas County and the private power company that owned them. For once, they got their hands slapped and lost. But it cost the tax payers several million dollars.

EWEB (Eugene water and electric board) is a evil monopoly, I would not put it past them to try it again someday, unfortunately, they own all the power projects (dams/ power canals) along the McKenzie River, and I am a customer..........40 miles from Pewgene!
At least I only pay their flat KW/hr rate for power, since I am independent for water.
In Pewgene, the fees they add to the utility bill, take it well over $300 a month on average.
There is talk of Lane Electric taking over EWEBs rural customers up-river..........One can only hope.
