Yeah, not so fortunate here, I have a propane furnace.
The first year I lived here, the bill came for filling the tank.
$600. I ask if that was for the whole season. NO, 2 months.
Wood stove went in that day.
17 years later, the propane furnace has not been lit.
A tank lasts 10 years now, as all it does is the cook stove
When I bought this unfinished house two years ago I started super insulating it. I've got R-19 under the floors, R-60 in the attic, R-19 in the walls. I also insulated all the interior walls, and went with zonal heat. My electric bill runs about $50/month in the summer, and about $90/month in the winter. I haul waste veggie oil from 12 resturants and use it to heat the shop......
Nice set up.
When I build the new house, I plan on the same, with a heat pump
The garage I plan on using a heat pump for summer, and water solar panels in the floor.
For back up on the garage, I plan on the boiler I took out of the shop I sold.
They said they didn't need it, and it was only 2 years old. It's in my garage now, waiting on it's new home,
I went with propane backup on the heat pump. The reason is if the power goes out, I can run the blower and propane ignighter with my gen set. That's also why I went with instant propane hot water heater. If the power goes out I'll still have heat, hot water, and can run the "puter" and enough lighting to get by till the power comes back on.
I've got two half finished solar panels for the shop built and will get them mounted this fall. They will be used to keep the veggie oil hot for the waste oil burner, and the hot tank.
Nothing much going on today. Got a physical therapy session today for my busted up shoulder. Other then that - everything is good! How's your day going?
