OEM spec is 10 microns at 98.6% (absolute per the SAE) with water stripping of 93-96%.
The WIX is 14 microns nominal (50%) and unknown water stripping.
Some of the WIX brand stuff is okay, the 7.3 fuel filter is not one of them.. Not that you would ever likely notice a difference, but I could never bring myself to put a documented inferior filter in my truck when so many other better options exist in the same price range.
Not to be THAT guy nominally isn't necessarily 50% efficient. It normally is but not always. I really wish wix gave the betas for the 7.3 fuel filter.
Thanks for the info, I did not know that. So since Wix is the only filter I have experience with what r my other options, other then OEM?
I have had wix, baldwin, OEM, fleetguard and donaldson fuel filters in my truck and all have worked fine. Personally I prefer the Donaldson filter, I can usually get it for 16-18 bucks a pop online and it has pretty good performance (5 microns at 95%, 7 microns absolute and 93-96% water stripping).
Personally I would just go with a reputable name brand in fuel filters (with cap or without...your call) and call it a day. The injection pressures and injector tolerances on these engines isn't anywhere near a common rail.
Having had an injector get nuked by water in fuel I like to stick to filters have water stripping information published or readily available but that is just my preference.
I have identified a different o-ring that works WAY better than the one that comes with the OEM filter.
Just as Kel described. You never have a problem with the fuel filter o-ring sealing until one day you do, and then try and re-try as you might you can't get it to seal with the new in-box triangular o-ring. Period.
I bought the Kel Varnson recommended fuel filter o-rings and they worked perfectly.
Glad they worked Tim. Just amazing to me that I went from zero problems to a nightmare with one change. Makes me wonder if they're tinkering with the fuel, particularly since you and I are both in Cali, and they are notorious for that.

Okay, I went through this thread 3 times and can't find the ID on these replacement O-Rings that Kel has come up with.
Kel, Tim...that o-ring works with what cap? Original or the a/m 1-piece filter you tried to install?
Side note...been using the WIX from fleetfilter since day one. (knock on wood), but havnt leaked nor trouble installing them. BUT, i do have a pre-pump/water seperator filter prior to pump.
The Kel suggested O-rings work well with the original cap or an after-market cap which was once shipped to me with a filter I bought.
I don't use the one-piece design.
I recently bought one lot of five filters off of ebay, because due to my tank delamination, I expect to change the filters out often until the flakes which I couldn't paint strip, pressure wash out, are gone.
