Will opening the drain valve a little, to relieve any pressure, make the cap easier to remove.
I know it helps on my home water filter/
You need to open the drain all the way to drain it first, if you dont you will have one hell of a mess. Also there is no pressure in the fuel bowl after the engine is off.
Before you trash-talk them so badly, maybe you should first consider buying better quality one-piece filters.
I'm not going to stand by and let anyone dissuade people from using a quality piece, without speaking up, just because THEY haven't been able to use it.
I've used the good ones since day one, and have absolutely no trouble with them whatsoever.
Maybe we do things differently?

You always have considerate and educated rebuttals and posts.
I'd just go test drive a 7.3 from the local dealership and just swap filters and caps with yours (dealership probably just changed the fuel filter in the truck on the lot).

Heh heh, good luck finding a 7.3 on the lot. Every time I go to pick up parts for mine, they try to talk me into selling it to them.
To the O.P.: After changing my fuel filter many times with a stock one with no ill effects, for some strange reason this time around I could just NOT get it to seal. And what a mess, at 70 psi, no fun at all. If this happens to you, do a search and find the thread I started on the subject, I have identified a different o-ring that works WAY better than the one that comes with the OEM filter.

Well which ones are the good ones? The ones I have used has come apart and had some trouble with them not sealing all the time. I have not had any trouble with the oem style.
I use the Wix one piece filters & love them. Never had any issues with them not sealing or coming apart or even being able to unscrew them out of the fuel bowl. If u just had the truck running it does help to bleed the bowl by opening the drain valve. Found this out first hand, it takes a little while for the pressure to come off after u shut down

You should definitely STOP using WIX for a fuel filter. They come no where NEAR the specifications for the OEM filters.

What specifications do u mean? Like I said I have not had an ounce of issue with the Wix filters & I live in the far north where temps get down in the -30 range with no starting or fuel problems. I guess u would even be the first person I have heard say to NOT use these filters.
The WIX are the ones I was talking about. IIRC when I unscrewed it out of the bowl the filter would come off and get stuck in there, and it is the only time I have ever had an issue with a leak.
Just sayin what works for me, but who am I? By all means try whatever you would like on your trucks.
My bad Pop.
NAPA has some nice one piece filters. A little costly but they work well. I change my fuel filter when I change my oil, makes every thing easy to remember.

OEM spec is 10 microns at 98.6% (absolute per the SAE) with water stripping of 93-96%.
The WIX is 14 microns nominal (50%) and unknown water stripping.
Some of the WIX brand stuff is okay, the 7.3 fuel filter is not one of them.. Not that you would ever likely notice a difference, but I could never bring myself to put a documented inferior filter in my truck when so many other better options exist in the same price range.

Thanks for the info, I did not know that. So since Wix is the only filter I have experience with what r my other options, other then OEM?
