2005, V10, 108K, 4"lift, 315/75/16, 3.73, ...spring on the 1-2 shift broke and was replaced in June..now having a hard 1-3 shift..missing 2..and overdrive is not working in 4th gear..time for a rebuild ?..I am looking to re-gear to 4.30 after reading numerous forums..should i also look at torque converter ?..thank you for your wisdom...also ..recommended gear brand ?
How is the maintaince of the transmission? Was it rebuilt at the time of the broken springs or was the bare minimum done? I would say a re gear and get a quality rebuild, expect a much shorter lifespan on moving parts with oversize tires and a lift.
Overdrive IS fourth gear. I suspect what you mean is the torque converter isn't locking in fourth gear.
The first step of ANY diagnosis is to get it scanned for codes. The places that do that free don't have the right tool and will not be able to read the codes that you need.
I can't tell you why you're having problems again, but it doesn't sound fun. Depending on how soon you need the tranny and what your budget is check out John Wood or BTS. There are others, but those are two of the popular ones off the top of my head. Those guys build some awesome reliable trannies. That said, if you have a decent local shop and tell/give them the rebuild kit/torque converter, you would get a decent tranny at a more budget friendly price.
For the gears, I know a bunch of guys have used Yukon. I've read, now sure how true it is, that OEM gears are the quietest so some guys only use OEM.
well..rebuilt the transmission...added transgo shift kit, new billet torque converter, shifting in the power band now..still looking to go to 4.3 gears from 3.73..thoughts ?
