Unhappy Torque Converter not locking up

Hey everyone, can someone PLEASE help me? I have a '96 F250 4x4 PSD E4OD w/ 135,000 and the other day I was driving home from work when the torque converter wouldn't fully lock-up at 35-40 mph where it normally does. I bought the truck last May-June and I had always noticed that the converter wouldn't lock-up until the engine was warmed up a little bit. Could that have been a clue that it was on it's last leg or was it normal? Other then that the truck shifts gears just fine. I've looked at other things about a solenoid that could be acting up. It's really wierd it locks-up halfway but acts like it's not locked-up, like another gear but the rpms still flutter up and down like an older transmission would. I'm really worried about taking it to a tranny shop or dealer and have them tell me the tranny needs a complete rebuild when it could just be something simple. I'm somewhat mechinically inclined, but not very well with newer vehicles. Too many computers... Can someone help me?

Zak

At 135k you probably do need a complete rebuild, not cheap and not the answer you want to hear. PSD's eat those transmissions for lunch. The first thing you need to do is get the computer codes. That may pinpoint if it is the solenoid, converter clutch or something else.

A converter will cost about $300, solenoids about $100 and the whole transmission $1500-$2500.
