Recently on my 03 I noticed that my driver side fog light was out so I ordered new LED replacement bulbs for them. When i got around to replacing them I noticed that on the light that was out the bulb had vibrated out of the socket and had settled on the edge of the housing and had melted the whole business. So my question is, should I just find another OEM housing and put my LED's in, or should I look for some aftermarket light that fits to just replace the stock ones? It would be nice to be able to use the LED's I ordered (3157) but its not the end of the world, i could just pop them in one of my other trucks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I just replaced my entire lens housing for headlights and running/blinker lights. Is this where you are talking about or do you have fog lights in your bumper? Put some electrical grease on those led electrical connections and let it ride. Make sure you test the lights before you shove them into the housing. Led's only work one way.
I wonder if you can just purchase a new pigtail with a new socket on it? The real question is why did it melt? Did you put high wattage aftermarket bulbs in there? If so then this is what melted them to begin with. Did the pigtail and the socket on the housing get melted or just the pigtail?
I don't have fog lights to compare to. I am an electrician by trade and am attempting to trouble shoot with information you provide. So the bulb came out of the housing and was hot and melted the housing. The lamp housing or the lens housing? Is there a pigtail that has a light in it and it unscrews from the lens housing? or do you have to completely disassemble the fog light to replace the lamp? It sounds like you need a new pigtail and lens housing but I don't understand your exact setup. I would have to see a picture to understand what is melted and how to MOVE FORWARD from here.
Thanks Dave, for the meantime I just pulled one off of our other trucks. The dog had chewed through the pigtail (harness) whatever its called so I had to rewire that too. I got it all back together now though and they work but one side is a little dimmer that the other Thanks for your help guys!

Check your local parts stores. They do sell pigtails with sockets. I just had to replace the two for my side marker lights when I remove my strobes. They had been hanging empty for awhile and the road grime and garbage corroded the contacts.
