I am thinking about buying a cab for my 1978 F350. Yesterday while vising with Walford56, we made our way to Orwell and looked at this cab. The floor pans will need replaced but the rest of the cab is solid. The dash is missing but I have the dash in my current truck. My question then is how hard is it to remove the dash from my truck and install it in the other cab?
It's not. The only problem is that once you take it apart, you will probably find stuff wrong and want to fix it.
As far as actually removing it, there's a row of screws on the top, bolts in each side plate, and a couple bolts by the steering column. Other than that, it is just some wiring and trim that will actually keep it in.
I agree, just a few screws and nuts. shouldn't slow you down too much. There was a guy around here that did a cummins swap and he put a dash from a 96 ford in, that was interesting.
There are 6 screws in the top, 1 on the bottom under the cigarette lighter, 1 on the bottom on the left drivers side by the E-brake, 1 on each side going towards the doors (these are kind of a pain). If you remove the gauge cluster and glove box you can reach through with a small socket wrench and get them. I just gutted my cab and the dash took me about an hour for everything. GL
