Anybody ever remove the entire dash? Not just the panels above & below the steering column, but the entire dash all the way across. It looks like the factory may have put it in attached to the duct work pieces as an assembly, due to some hidden fasteners...
Has anyone else done this?
I did in my '96 a few years ago. It wasn't as bad as I thought. There are three (I think) bolts on the driver's side that hold an aluminum support for that end of the dash that go into the left cab kick panel. The trim screws along the top of the dash next to the windsheild. One screw under the dash that supports it to a rod extension, and one screw between the dash and the passenger door jamb. You will have to take the bolts out of the steering column and lower it, obviously. I was doing a colmplete interior swap, so I took my steering column out completely befor removing the dash.
I had to loosen the dash to get to the wiring harnesses to unhook them, along with the air conditioning controls.
I had to get a buddy to help hold the passenger side up while putting the dash back in, but it was a lot easier than I had expected. Hope this helps.
