I am looking to repair and paint the dash in my 61 Unibody and can't seem to get a few of the bezels off. The 2 air bezels, the choke and the heater ones are giving me trouble. How do those come off?
Also - does the dash itself even come out? I was hoping to pull it out to fix it but even with all the bolts (I think all the bolts anyway) I won't seem to budge.
If I remember correctly, these have a nut on the back that secures them in place.
As for the dash, if you are referring to the metal piece across the cab, then the dash does not come off with bolts. It is spot welded as part of the cab.
If you need to fix a big hole that a previous owner cut for a later radio, an old glovebox door has the right contours for a piece to be welded in. That's what I did, anyway, and it looks great.
Thanks for the welcome! I should of done it long ago before I tore into stuff and broke it
Any idea about the Dash itself. I think it may be spot welded in. The guy who had the truck before me spray painted part of it black and left part of it blue!!???!!
