Todd, usually I would agree with you.In my case since my truck has as many miles and unknowns I dont think I should. I had the hpop gasket wich had been replaced with the wrong one.It had been on so long the rubber was splitting all around the insides of the ports. In my opinion that is bad for hpop health . SO, my theory is with out replacing the hpop...inj as well while im attempting to obtain more power...im just pi**ing in the wind. AND then with the massive amount of blowby that I have....I dont know if doing much is even a good idea since I have so much to do and buy for the new motor.
THat is my take..am I a worry wort? maybe...
I completely agree with no mods until the truck is up to par mechanically. I didn't realize you had a few issues. Those issues a side, I wouldn't hesitate to mod a high mileage truck, provided its up to snuff.
From what I saw on Jim's site, they don't cost any more than Stage 1s, and Mike said with the extra fuel it would run a little cooler EGTs while towing and have a little more power. I'm doing the premium builds so I figured I'd get all I can get out of it. LOL!!
Do you ever plan to swap out the turbo? IMO, get 160/80s or 160/100s if you ever plan to swap turbos. nozzles are all the same price and it's going to run hot no matter how you look at it with the stock turbo anyways.

I don't plan on swapping the turbo Travis, well, not in the near future anyway. So, let me pick your brain, if I keep the stock turbo, what do you think I should do on the injectors?
YEA! WHat Bill asked...For now im planning about the same . just oil,sticks,chip...
I found the dipstick seal for the engine oil. My dipstick has had severe blowby coming out since I had the truck. It turns out the week after I got it when I had the pass valve cover off...The dipstick seal had slid down the tube just below the hold on bracket.I recovered it an put it back in the dipstick. NO MORE SMOKEY TRAIN!!! woo hoo.maybe the ol gal has some more life in her!
That would be great Aaron. Make it last until you can do the other motor right!
I know what your feeling Bill, I got 160/80 from Jim and before I've even driven it I'm thinking I should have gotten 180/80 or 180/100's. When I sent my injectors to Jim I wasn't planning on doing studs, etc. so just thought the regular starge II's would be pushing it. It never ends, never!!
Glenn, I just don't know enough about the injectors to know what the pros and cons are. I figured with the stock turbo and T500, 1s would be fine, but if the 1.5s would benefit me in any way for the same price, I'll do those. But that's where my lack of knowledge comes in. I'l probably make one last call to Jim before I send him my cores next week, and pick his brain some more.
Im curious as well about injector sizing....Everytime I think I understand some of it...throw it out the window! and then you cross refrence it with turbo sizing...eesh
well, i had wanted premiums and t500 but since I have the 17 and my injectors are working fine..it just seems like for not much money I could get somewhere...I may call Jim monday and see what he thinks?
I just wish I knew the history of the truck.
I was thinking about budget builds, but Jim said that the majority of the '94.5 - '97 injectors with high miles that he builds need so many new parts that in the long run it's better to do premiums. I didn't want new stuff in some of my injectors and not in others for a few hundred less dollars, and the injectors that I'm sending him are out of the parts truck with 328,000 on the clock, and I don't know the history of the truck or injectors, so I'm going ahead and doing premium builds
As far as I know the 17 will keep up with stage I's. A T500 isn't much better then a 17 and I hope they will keep up with my stage II's. I was hoping Joey would have had the T1000 out when I ordered.
I've done a lot of injector research since I bought my 7.3 and learned a lot. But I have a similar plan to Bills. I'd like to do T500 and stage 1.5's (because I've read the 30% nozzles may help lower egt's), and a chip. Someday down the road I'd like to do something for a turbo.
Recently there's been a dyno thread up in the 99-03 section though and it seems like a lot of guys there are running either 160/80's and 180/80's without any issues.
It's got me thinking and I've realized I dont know much
What's your opinion Travis? I tow a 33' 5th wheel and dont want to over do it.

Dang you Bill! I know...I know.......premiums are out of my budjet though...maybe I need to just leave it alone until I can do premiums.
Glenn, you could have done Joeys duals...they look so nice... ok...back to the real world. I think it will run real nice for you!
