Got an SES light in my Excursion today and had it checked. Came up with cylinder 4 glow plug circuit. Can anybody give me a heads up on what this code can mean?? Thanks!
Anything from a dirty plug on the GCM to a bad Glow Plug.
First thing to do it pull the plugs off the GCM and clean
then with some contact cleaner and add some dielectric grease.
Next think is going to be checking the #4 Glow Plug from that
same plug with a DMM. The thing about doing it at the GCM plug
is you also are checking the cable down to the plug. I would look at the
cable to see if any thing is covered in oil. If you find a bad plug then you may
want to plan on replacing the harness and the other 3 plugs.
I don't have a copy of the GCM plug that I can post so you may have to look for it
or ask and someone may have it.
Glow plug may be bad. What year, how many miles? What is the code#. You can check them with an ohm meter. Glow plugs read less then 2 ohms. I think #4 cylinder is second one drivers side. Find the wire connection, ohm glow plug to gnd.(neg batt post).
It's a 2005 with 118k on the clock. I don't remember the exact code number, but it just said "cylinder 4 glow plug circuit". This is gonna sound dumb, but where are the glow plugs located on this engine? Is it something I can change myself, or is it pretty in depth?
