I got the pistons out tonight, even the frozen one it took more than a little persuasion. The motor has been apart before one of the rods is marked remand by FM and another is a different color, same as re-maned one. The cylinders are sleeved, was this common practice or were the cylinders too bad to simply bore? I'am also wondering if anyone has come across this on a rebuild, can I get new sleeves pressed in?
What is the condition of the bores? Possibly a very light honing and go back with what ever size you have. Another possibility is an overbore of the sleeves although some shops may not want to do it. My concerns would be condition of and tightness of the sleeves.
Have you figured out why it stuck? Signs of water intrusion?
What is the condition of the bottom end?
What is the condition of the valves?
Get it cleaned up and go from there.
Luck
Edit:
You won't know if a re sleeve is possible 'till you find out how much the engine was bored and if the bore is in good shape. It is possible they bored into the water jacket and the sleeve leaked.
My guess is a warped head. The stuck piston had a about an ounce of rusty crud looked like coffee grounds on top of the piston. There is also a good amount of rust in a couple of the exhaust ports were the manifold bolts up. The bottom end looked good, crank journals nice and shiny. Picture of the crank won't load here is one of the pistons.
Forgot about the valves, still working on getting them out. I'am sure I have some that are stuck. I'am soaking them tonight and going to try to get them out tomorrow. Thanks for your help Ray much appreciated.
Anybody with 18" widowmakers out there for these F4s? Looking for some options.
Yes, the 18" widow makers can be replaced with 19.5" x 6" Budd #89340 tubeless wheels. The 7" x 18" tires on your truck are probably about 33.5" to 34" tall which is almost exactly the equal of an 8R19.5" radial. Here's a link to a new 18" tire in the Universal Tire catalog to show its sizing. I'm not suggesting that you think about buying these, nobody would want to mount them on your widow makers.
