Hello all,
My name is Jeff, I just purchased a 48 F4. I'am completely new to all of this, but that never stops me from jumping straight in the deep end. The truck is in Kansas and I'am in Ohio so this will include a nice road trip. My Dad is retired and volunteered to ride along, he also happened to find a delivery for us to make on the way out. There was a ford truck frame in my great grandfathers barn that my uncle in Kansas wants, so it will ride the trailer out. I've been perusing TFE trying to soak up what I can, but I'am sure Ill have plenty of the same new guy questions the vets here have answered before. I will try to search out the answers first, and would like to thank you all for the wealth of knowledge shared here. I will try to link some pics, and I did get this off eBay so it is a pig in a poke. I didn't go in more than I could afford to lose, but I hope I come out ok. Having said that, the motor is locked, but I'am hoping the cab is in as good of shape as it looks in the pics. I welcome your opinions, if I screwed the pooch let me know, I'am a big boy I can take it I did read about the widow makers, so pretty sure Ill need wheels, among other things. That's enough of a rant thanks for reading.
Welcome to the forum, Jeff. I recently acquired a '49 F4 and have started work on it. I like the slightly larger trucks also. Replacement parts are not quite as easy to obtain as the smaller trucks but much stuff is out there, you just have to dig and ask to find it.
That looks like one very nice unmolested original truck. All it needs now is a script bed. Stick around.
You did great by posting pictures.
Welcome to the forum! Great looking truck. I agree with Ray, the F-4 is a nice sized truck, big enough to have duallies, but not so huge as the Big Jobs. They seem to be found in cleaner shape than most F-1's too.
It sure looks like you are getting a good one. From the pics it looks like it doesn't have rust issues. What are you going to do with it? A driver, complete restoration, a working truck? Have a great trip getting it, and good luck with it. Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the reply's, my plan for the truck as stock as possible, get it running and roadworthy. By the way anybody have a link to the specs for this truck ie. wheel base width, weight, over all length. I just want to make sure the trailer I'am taking is going to work.

Here is a couple pictures of an F4 on my 18' X 7' deck 10K GVWR trailer. The truck was winched onto the trailer and I did not have the alignment perfect so the rear outside wheel would not fit between the fender on one side. Since I had just ten miles to go and had enough weight forward for good balance I chained her down and brought the old girl home. FWIW, the outside wheels can be deflated or removed to get clearance if you're tight between fenders. A lot depends on your trailer.

Ray, thanks for the pics and info, the trailer is 7' between the fenders so I'am in the same boat. If I take off the outside duals will the lugs tighten down on the inside rim, or will I need to shim it with some washers? Thanks Jeff
