Yeah right! When I did my brakes I did put some of that weird purple crap on the back of the pads but didn't have enough for the other stuff. It usually only squeals when I am braking hard or the brakes are being used a lot. I still have yet to do the rear brake adjustments. I have been busy with the motor lately.

That moves onto the cold start issue. I was having an issue with the choke linkage not being long enough, so I made a longer one out of coat hanger. Unfortunately that alone wasn't enough I played with a few things on the throttle side, a screw that ups the idle a little, and a screw for the choke. The throttle one is NOT the high idle screw I don't think. All it does is push on the throttle to give it more gas while idle. Next is a screw on the very bottom of the whole setup on that side. It seems to push onto a lobe connected to the choke rod and keeps it closed until it warms up. That helped a lot with the cold starts but this morning it was really hard to start. If I let off the gas too much it would die like it used to. I know it isn't running like it should and the timing probably needs to be re-checked, but otherwise I don't really know what to do. Even if I had a diesel, unless it was injection I wouldn't be getting anywhere. It's all up in the carb causing issues.

At the moment I am working on getting some coolant stuff straightened out, i found out my OEM temp gauge works fine. I got a new sensor bu the old plug is stuck and now the seal is leaking. So I figured I would replace the thermostat and reseal it. I also want to clean up the inlet tube for the coolant so I can paint it. A nice gloss black outta do good. I also thought about replacing the upper hose even though the current one is still good. Since the PO put a body lift on the rad is up higher and the stock length hose is being stretched and it concerns me that it might rupture or something. I figured I would pull the current hose and take it in to match it to something just a few inches longer.

Anyways enough about my crap, my plate is pretty full of stuff I should do.

Engine block heater and for that it does not have to be a diesel engine.
See this link
Zerostart Radiator Hose Heater at Blain's Farm & Fleet

It does not have to be this one just one like it for ease of install.

I had a block heater once. I don't know if it is worth it to use it every time i want to drive it down the road to work. Seems like a waste of money in electricity to do something the engine is supposed to do on it's own. I will get it all straightened out at some point. It's just slow going for the time being.

sure, a block heater costs a bit to run, but i would be interested to see a cost comparison of running the heater for half an hour before you fire up vs manually holding your engine at high idle for 10 minutes before it'll idle steady enough to drive
but if you get things tuned in right, you really shouldn't need the heater in our mild climate

I had to sleep, I had been up all of Monday night and would have fallen asleep at my computer. Anyways, usually I only hols it for a minute before it will run on its own, then I let it run till the idle smooths out and it is ready to run. I just don't know why it had such a hard time running yesterday. It was really weird.

You should make drop brackets for the radiator, simple to make out of flat strap. Doing that will make your hoses right and line up the fan with the radiator so it cools correctly in the summer.

I plan to remove the body lift and put a suspension lift in. A drop bracket would be a nice temporary fix till the suspension deal happens.
