that l6 would have a c6 behind it. AFAIK, thats the only automatic that was offered with a 300 until sometime after they went to fuel injection. and i've never heard of the c4 being used in any pickup, regardless of engine.
I agree with Josh up there, a C4 just doesn't seem strong enough for a trucks needs. And them 300's are some torquey buggers. I have seen a lot of threads where people throw a 5 speed behind them. I forget the name of the Trans but I think it starts with an F or something.
there were 2 options of 5 speeds, the light duty "mazdog" m5od, or the heavy duty ZF. the 4 speeds are pretty common too. i've owned 2 trucks from the 80-86 era that both had the NP435, which is darn near bulletproof, i had one that survived running out of oil and only killed a synchro in the process, i drove it for a few months that way
Your Model Year is 1978.
Truck Series: F150 2 Wheel Drive
Engine: 6cyl - 300cid, 1BBL carb, 120 HP
Assembly on: San Jose, CA
If you look on the tag on the door jamb there should be a listing for trans code. I think C4's were used in the early 2wd f100s, in the 73-75 range for a dentside.
As far as the meet goes, I can probably make it. Did we decide on a date?
looks like we were going for the 19th at the pizza place detailed in post #13, as that seemed to be the best day for everybody.
do we want to do 6 in the evening, or something different?

Whoops I must be going blind Good thing I'm getting glasses soon
5 or 5:30 would probably work well for me. Hell I suppose 6 would work too. Not much later though
Linky works fine. Thanks Sean. 5:30 sounds good to me. Maybe for once I can be the first one there But anyways, I am looking forward to meeting any new kids on the block
Hopefully TGM will still be in good health around that time. It's been having issues with cold starts and idleing lately. And now my brakes are squealing even though they are fairly new
oh, brake squeal. i have just the answer for that. take them apart and put a thin layer of grease on every point where the pads touch their mounting bracket and/or the caliper. might also grease the slides that the caliper mounts on.
