I don't know if anything will ever come of this but I bought a 2003 F250-6.0 power stroke, auto, 4x4 rough but cheap truck. My thoughts are roaming around in my head to graft the front section of frame onto my 49 F3 using the 6.0- auto OD with transfer case in tact but swaping the original straight axle under it. It has a 1991 F350 rearend that runs 55 easy enough with caddy and auto so I'm thinking with the 6.0 auto OD it shoukd make a real nice road swap and the transfer case to be able to shift to the low side for use in hard pulling and backing up the hill to my garage, what do you think.
I may get some hate from saying this........the 6.0 is one of the worse motors from ford I have ever seen. We have one in on little wrecker at work it has been nothing but problems.
The 7.3 is a much better motor but it to is a huge motor I doubt it would fit also I don't know how well the frame would hold up to all the torq.
I don't know much about how difficult that frame graft could be, but I do know I have owned two F-250's ( an 05 and my current 08). They are built like tanks with huge frame and suspension pieces. I can't imagine trying to graft that onto an older big truck frame. And after my experience with my 6.0 and getting stranded on the road 3 times, I despise that engine. But I'm sure you've fixed or deleted the EGR/oil cooler issues.
To add to the despise for the 6.0L there is ficm(fuel injector control module) issues. The egr issue and said egr cooler issues. Changing a belt on one of these motors is a nightmare. Heck changing the air filter sucks. As I said our wrecker is a 05 and he have put alll the injectors, glow plugs, a ficm, and before long we are going to have to replace the entire warness for the motor due to many issues with it. We have also had issues with cam sensors failing. We ended up even replacing the wires from the ECM all the way to the sensor.
Even ford here where I live 9 out of 10 won't work on the 6.0 much.
I miss the 7.3L .......though I have heard the new diesel the 6.9 I believe is a better motor.
Go for it! One of my friends has one with almost 300,000 miles on it. New injectors and the oil cooler. It would be an interesting build to say the least.
I'm with AXracer, just transplant the drivetrain and forget about the frame swap. As far as the 7.3 goes, its about the same size as the big block Ford gas motor. I physically measured one and it will fit in a 48-50 F1 engine compartment easily.
Garry, the 6.0 is bad news ....it has a small following, but the others are right. I would look for another engine. It does nake a decent boat anchor though the

I'm on Truxx's computer, had to come down for my adopted grandaugter Vicky's (Truxx's daughters) birthday. I have an 01 F250 with 7.3 and 06 with the 6.0 reworked and I really like the 6.0. The 03 I bought yesterday is really rough bot run good and I only have $ 1,000.00 in it and it should really make good swap into the 49 F3 hauler if I ever get it swapped. I can sell enough parts so that I don't have anything in the parts I will use, Garry- aka HOMADE
