I have a spare Cowl from my 94 truck. So I have an extra base (The square, silver part the radio antennae mounts on) to deal with if I wanted to.

Has anybody ran one off the rear bumper?
I don't mind the look, and the lower mounting would keep it from
Whacking every tree and drive thru sign..
Wasn't sure if the truck being in the way affected the signal real bad though

I've seen this a lot in my area, and the only issue with that is it smacks the tailgate/corner/lights unless you slide a tennis ball, etc down to keep it from contacting the body/paint.

Back in the 70's some automobile manufacturers actually offered factory radios with CB's built in,they were mediocre at best performance wise though.
They used a special antenna that worked for both broadcast band receiving and fro receiving and transmitting for the CB radio, again,a compromise at best.
Some aftermarket manufactures made a
AM/FM/CB antennas as bolt in replacement for stock radio antennas but I have no idea of any are still available, also I don't know of anyone who actually used one so I have no idea if they were very effective.

Mines just mounted as kind of a mock up, I don't have anything wired right now,
Mainly because I'm not sure how/where to run the antennae..

I'm thinking about putting a firestik in place of my AM/FM antennae. I don't
Use it, and the cable is broken somewhere between the radio and antennae.
Would this be doable?

Cman, what are the small ones on the back window for? Curious..
I mounted mine similar, but I fabbed up a peice of angle and rivited it to the CB mount, then attached to the 2 small tabs below the ashtray area. Works well and doesnt interfere with the ashtray that way...

My antenna it run to the drivers fender with a stainless firestick mount... looks pretty good IMO. It ties in with the factory trim/mirrors ~ You can see it in my Avatar pic... Wire routed though a factory rubber plug in the fire wall that if you nip the back off of, turns into a perfect sized grommet for the coax.

Island'r, that truck is beautiful.

Found what I was looking for!

CB Install: Replaced AM/FM w/ CB Antenna (done) 56k No way! - Ford Ranger Forums - The Ultimate Ford Ranger Resource

Any reason this wouldn't work with our trucks?

Looks good to me. Clean, even if the CB antenna is a giveaway that something is not stock.

That Cobra 75 is a good space-saving unit, but a better and more versatile unit is the Midland 75-822.

I can see his reasoning for using a Cobra 75 in a Ranger- there is no spare real estate for anything that approaches a mid or full size radio. Even a compact unit would be mounted on its side (usually), taking up room in the passenger's knee area.

It's a clean install on that Ranger, but I'd question the strength, using just the factory mounting base and three small screws to hold that Firestik in place. Maybe if he made a plate for the underside, and used nuts and bolts it'd be stronger.

I love this install: 2004 F250 CB Antenna Install

Haven't removed my cowl yet to see if that'd work on an OBS...

That one does look good, Bob.
I never thought about the strength issue. Those short firestiks don't
Like to bend a whole lot, may put a lot of stress on the mount.

Agreed. Like I mentioned, with a backing plate under the cowl it'd probably be just fine, and I suppose antenna length would make a difference too. If it's low enough, it may not hit anything at all.

Fairly easily. Remove wiper arms, and there's screws across the top and the inside edge under the hood. I've never had mine completely off, just lifted it some to replace washer nozzles. Should be able to open it enough to see what's underneath without too much trouble.

Cool. Guess with enough effort I could try and fit a proper mount under
The cowl and come up through it like they did on that super duty..

That would probably be the best way for me.

Well, we'll both find out soon enough. Just ordered the parts to attempt it on mine. No idea when I'll have time to do it, but I'll take pics.
