AEM Dryflow Air Filter

Santa showed up a touch early yesterday!

after much swaying back and forth between the napa 6637 filter and this filter i decided to get this filter b/c it is smaller than the 6637(i'm running out of room under the hood) and it is re-usable. it has also gotten good reviews from people that i have talked to that have used it first hand.

this is how i am going to route the piping and am going to put the filter.

i am currently running cowl air using the factory turbo air box and a one-time use filter. i'm tired of spending $25/filter every few months. i still have to buy a silicone boot to come off the turbo and connect to the 4" pipe. i will probly be making the intake shortly after Christmas so i will update with pics then.

link to the filter btw.

Watch that filter closely if you live in dusty climates. My brother had one on his cummins swapped ford and it started sucking dirt within like 6 months of install.
he has since swapped back to the tried and true K&N.
Now the AEM last time i checked was sitting in the bed of his truck.

I have the generic of that filter (spectre) and it works fine for me. and i DO live in the dust. Have to clean it out quite regularly but other than that no problems. Ive checked for dirt dust everytime, and evertime the inside of the filter and my intake pipes are clean as could be, with the exception of past the CDR of course.

i have one of those too.it came on my used banks turbo.it didn't fit the housing correctly so it wasn't pressurizing the system.had to replace it with the proper fitting b&m.
while i used it though,i didn't experience any issues with it either.

it's actually closer to 2.75" but i think 2.5" will be just fine. haha IC would be nice, but probly won't happen. IP will be in another 100K if i have the truck then or if the IP craps out before then(i can only hope for the best on that) lol.

i'm pretty much done now..............

i am tired of paying $25 every few months for a filter. the holes on my filter box that hold the lid down are also FUBARD. i am sucking my filter minder down as well. right now if i really romp on it i hit 10psi. in other words, my intake right now is restrictive. also like has been said before. when going down the road under hood temps are only a couple degrees warmer than outside temps

keep an open mind here,im not trying to get ya excited or anything.i know your having fun.this is what matters most anyway lol.

your not pressurized. which means your not "forcing" air into the intake with just an hot air/under hood setup like that.
but anyway check this out. a test showing how toasty things get next to that enclosed diesel;

First test was with the factory plastic piece that pulls air from outside, right under where the hood meets the top of the radiator support.

The temperatures were as follows:
Start of test: 73
1st Minute: 72
2nd Minute: 70
3rd Minute: 70
4th Minute: 70
5th Minute 72
Average temperature: 71.17
2 Minute Idle temperature: 129

.................

Next I removed the factory hard plastic duct work, and directed the flexible piece towards the wheel well.
I did this because I have seen many pics of people who have done away with the air box and run an open filter on the wheel well. Below is a pic of my 2-door set-up for reference.

The temperatures were as follows:
Start of test: 127
1st Minute: 128
2nd Minute: 127
3rd Minute: 127
4th Minute: 126
5th Minute 129
Average temperature: 127.33
2 Minute Idle temperature: 140

source of test with pics and details found on oil burners:

Intake Air Temperature Experiment
