Bought my truck with newer Reflex shocks on all four corners, so I've never driven it with anything else. Now I have a F250SD with the short wheel base so I understand its a pretty rough ride, especially since its virtually unloaded 100% of the time. BUTTT these Monroes seems to ride like crap. I'd expect the rough ride with hard jolts but these shocks seem to offer very little rebound dampening so what little suspension compliance I DO get just fires the chassis back up explosively.
But like I said, I've only had these shocks on here so I cant compare.
I've owned both on my previous Rams. I liked the Gas Magnums better. The Reflex did what they're supposed to do. Firm but open up on the bigger bumps. For me that meant making the little road irregularities seem bigger. A 3/4 ton pickup doesn't need any help making the ride rougher. The Gas Magnums give a softer ride while doing their job well on the bigger bumps. Especially while towing our 5th wheel. At 52k miles, my F250 isn't far from needing a set of shocks. I'll be going with the Gas Magnums.
I just ordered the Gas Magnum from Rock Auto and they showed up less than 24 hours later! In small letters on the box it says 'Made in USA'!! You would think Monroe would promote that fact.
The old bed is on the way to the scrap heap and I am going to 'paint' the frame, figured it's a good time to swap the shocks too. A bit puzzled by the rear shock mount, seems there is no 'drain'? I will get a closer look tomorrow.
Found the suspension/ride on the SD much better than my 95 250. I liked the Rancho 9000's on that one, especially with a camper in the bed.
