Hey, sorry if this is coming up again, but I tried searching and had no real luck. I have a '96 Bronco XLT 5.8 with the Tow Package, and the shocks are starting to go. I was wondering what to replace them with. They are the stock shocks. I'm in an interesting situation, because I realize that if I make the right choice, she'll ride better than she ever did, but if I make the wrong one, she won't ride as well as she used to. I'd like something similar to stock, a really nice ride, because she's a daily driver and for most of the time will be in situations where stiff shocks will just get annoying. At the same time though, I want something that can still handle it when I need a little extra, like if I do some mild off-roading or I need to use 4 wheel drive. Is shock the best balance of these two? Or is there something better? I'd like a shock that'll really last me a while, I'm willing to spend a little more if it'll last a lot longer. Thanks,
Hey Chuck, I'm running Edlebrock IAS Performer shocks. You get the best of both worlds, it'll stiffen up when you're on a smooth road and it'll soften up when the road gets a little bumpy. These are very nice shocks and I have no complaints about them.

Is bronco5.8's opinion about right? From what I've heard, Monroe's can be great but can also crap out early on, and KYBs and Ranchos are a little on the stiff side. Would Edelbrock IAS be the way to go for a really smooth ride but that extra support when you need it?
Has Anyone tried HECKETHORN® ROUGH COUNTRY® NITRO 9000 GAS SHOCKS or the 8000s there both relatively cheap @ 30$ i was lookin at them because i need new ones too
I'm pretty sure Rancho and Monroe shocks are the exact same spec, built by the same mfr. I'm currently running pro-comps and really like them. I had the RS9000's on my F150 and just couldn't see them being worth the $80+ each that they cost.
The Edelbrock IAS shocks were on sale from Summit for $99 for 4 not too long ago. Not sure if they still have any, but not a bad shock, and you can't even buy crappy Autozone generic shocks for that price. May wanna check it out.
Not sure here but I would guees that even if Ranchos and Monroes are built by the same that they would still ride differently, if that is what Geezer is trying to say. I have Monroes ST and they are almost enough. I will keep them for a while but I want a shock that rides in between Monroe sensa trac and the Rancho 5000. I agree with Geezer about the RS9000. Thats hard to swallow for the price.
i just got 2 Edelbrock IAS Twin-Tube Shocks from summit for just under $50 shipped, the guy said they use to cost around $60 a pop but edelbrock discontinued them and summit bought the rest up. The only problem is they only have rear ones left for the stock height bronco but they still have front and back for a lifted truck.
I just installed the Rancho 9000X on my Bronco. They are 9 way adjustable so you can set them the way you like. I get a much better ride with them. I set them super soft for a nice ride and with the sway bars it doesn't handle bad. They are a little pricey but I think they still have the buy 3 get one free deal until the end of the month.
