so i want to get a project car or truck to work on at home when bored and at school in my auto and collision classes. the problem is i already have a truck so i have no where to park the project car. we have a three car drive way and can fit two at the side of our house. my dad wont let me park in the driveway and he said i cannot park something that isnt going to move alot at the side of the house (so we have easy acess to the trailer). I would park my truck at the side but my dads dodge is always parked in front of the gate so thats not an option if im driving to school every day. I was thinking of parking it out front but for one, my truck is parked out front on the street, and even if there is enough space for both wont it get towed since it will sit for long periods of time? I have asked people in my family if i could park in there empty lots at the sides of their houses and they said no. Would it be possible to rent a storage unit and work on it/leave it there? i cant think of a whole lot of other options. And i definately want a project so not getting one is not an option . I have even thought of getting a flat bed trailer and parking it on that and just towing it around but that can get expensive for gas pretty fast. Please post ANY ideas, as i am out of them.
I don't see a choice here but to delay any project of that sort. You want a smaller automotive project? Rebuild a 351w into a mild firebreather for your next truck/project. Serving suggestion.
IMO you're lucky to have gotten civil answers to the question of parking your "project" next to someone's house.....
im not planning on "restoring" anything. just something i can do some engine work to and clean up a bit. I was thinking of getting something that runs and sell my current truck but my current truck is my first truck and i cant part with it yet.
Hey, I feel your pain. I had the desire while I was in the Navy but no space (and no money) to work on one. That was almost 40 years ago and I've got more projects than will fit in my garage/driveway. Have you got a garage? Do you have space to work on something smaller than a full sized vehicle? Maybe you can start by rebuilding an engine that can go into a later project. Flathead, 302, etc. Once you have the power plant then perhaps the driveway option would not be as objectionable since you could move it around and it be a work in progress. Mini storage space is an option but gets expensive fast. I understand you wanting to get started on something but also the reluctance of friends and family to let you do it in their driveway. Don't hold it against them...look for other options. Good luck.
I like the motorcycle idea. It's fun to wrench on something that doesnt take up much room. I doubt you'll find an easy answer, aside from living on your own, and using your own garage/carport/workshop.
Dont know if you're in college or highschool? I know that some highschool auto shops may let a project vehicle 'park' for a while, so long as the kids get to tinker and learn on it. That may be an option, if you dont mind others working or learning from your truck?
