So as a last chance thing, with the engine running I pushed the chip towards the side away from the fenderwell and te truck died. Possibly a bad connection?

Definitely a bad connection but I wouldn't be moving the chip with keys in the ignition let alone with it running. That's the easiest way to fry your pcm.

So I think I may have cleaned the connections too much. I soldered them like the post above did. How would I go about getting those recoated? Does ford do that?

It has to have a good connection but it still refuses to work. I used lead free .050 thick electrical rosin core solder. I'm guessing its something to do with the chip. I'll send it back tomorrow since its still under warranty.

Tanner, I'm not sure where you bought your chip from but I'm in Houston. If you don't have anyone very near you such as in Baytown with a chip that you can try on your truck I have one on mine, TS 6 Bullydog programmed by Gearhead. Not a problem to install it on your truck in the meantime to see if mine works on your truck, make sure it is the chip.

I guess I should say if the years are compatible. Mine's an '01, '02 and up would not work. That's all I know as far as years go. Might work on a '99.

I might be able to break away tomorrow but it'd be in the late afternoon before I knew if I could. Tuesday or Wednesday I have nothing going on. When's good for you?

Does the other side look the same?

They don't look bad but they don't look ideal either...they appear cold and stacked upon the contacts, from the picture.

Too much solder! You want the contacts flat like they were originally. Get some fine solder wick at Radio Shack [LINK] and heat the braided copper with the soldering iron while touching the contacts to wick all of the excess off. The contact pins on your chip may be spread out from the solder pile (I'll bet the chip was difficult to insert). You can give it another try, but you may need to return the chip and hope they don't wack you for the spread pins.
