I put on my TS Performance chip today and it worked great! The power was insane. But I drive it for a little bit and when I got home and turned it off then back on the chip will not work. In every position the truck remains stock. Does anybody know what the problem might be? I'm really starting to get frustrated at this point.
I can't count the number electronic devices I've repaired by pulling the connector and re-connecting. Pulling the chip and real close inspection of the contacts would be prudent with this symptom.
Is it possible that I may have cleaned it too much?
Absolutely... but that crud on there is so stubborn that the greater likelihood is a tiny piece was missed. I grabbed a mega-magnifying glass and a good light to inspect the contacts before I installed the chip... I wanted to do it just once. I also tinned the contacts with silver solder. The soldering process showed me where the goop was still clinging to the conducting surface.
Whenever I connected it the first time it did not work. But I wiggled the cord around that runs to the selector and it started working. And it's stopped working again. So I checked the connection with the cord and the chip and it is in place. I'm at a loss..
If moving the connecting cord got it to work again and now it stopped...then that tells me a bad connection.
I would see if they can send you another cord and start with that. The connections to the switch and to the PCM are usually pretty good if you carefully cleaned the protective goop off.
Try moving the cord again only pay attention to see if the chip end or the swtich end is actually moving to make a connection again. This could tell you if it's the cord of the contacts. If it works again when moving the chip end, I would pull the PCM and double check the goop to make sure it is all off of there. Use your fingernails to see if you can scrape any more off. If not and all is good, then plug it all back in and try again. If moving the cord causes a work/ no work issue, then try a new cord.
Sometimes with wiring, there can be enough of the remaining wires holding to make it look like the wiring is in the connector correctly when you actually have 1 that is broken.
I just soldered the connections, checked the plug and plugged it all back in. Still does not work. The shifts are still smooth which is why I think it is stuck in the stock setting
At this point with all that you have checked, sounds like a dead chip, usually get a no start though... Was this just the standard configuration TS performance chip? I would send it back.
