Hello, I recently purchased a 89' f-250 regular cab longbox 4x4. It has an injected 460 and a zf5.
It runs real good and I have been getting 12 mpg in town driving easy, which I am happy with but there is always room for improvement.
I have been reading up on the "6 litre tune up" and the only question I have is how to advance the timing. I have had older trucks and I can time them but when I loosen the clamp on this 460, I cannot get the distributor to turn. What am I doing wrong?
You aren't doing anything wrong.. The distributor is just stuck, spray the heck out of it where it goes into the engine and keep trying to turn it a little at a time... If you get to move any just start going back and forth, it will free up a little better that way....
Don't forget to pull the spout connector when you get ready to set the timing...
I advanced my 92 460 to 14, it ran fine but would ping only when towing heavy. I set it back to 10 and really don't notice much difference besides no pinging. This was with 87 octane fuel
