460 timing @5500ft
In addition to the above question, I want to add that I tow a 24 foot Camp trailer (6000 lbs.) and am looking for info on the best timing adjustment for this. Is 10BTDC the best adjustment? How do I determine the best without causing unintended damage?
Had my distributor "recurved" at a local ignition shop before the trip and feel that helped. The guy I was working with said he has seen some horrendously mis-built rebuilts; mismatched springs, weights, etc. My weights and springs weren't too bad but I had a sticking linkage bar that I never would have discovered.
At his instruction I recorded rpm, engine vacum, fuel octane, ethanol content or not and road conditions on an earlier trip to Chicago. He matched the distributor advance to my truck and load. Seems to work very well. Money well spent.
