Scangauge? Battery warning light

I really want to get a electronic gauge system, eg. scangaugeII, I really want to monitor my truck vitals and catch things early, is the scangauge the best option? I have a 2006 350 6.0 with 145000kms on it all highway, stock, its been good, I love it and I want to keep it. I am not a mechanic by any means so the gauge would be info I could tell my mechanic.

3 times now my battery light has come on the light dim, then in a few minutes it resolves? The batteries seem strong, they are new, it seems to happen at any time, cold, partly warmed up and completely warm? Altenator? Belt? What do you guys think, its very speratic, but I want to get it fixed, I checked my battery connections and they seem good?

Thanks for any advice....Jason

Sounds like the alternator is getting ready to go. You do need to have the batteries individually load tested just to be sure. Also check the alt. grounds on the engine and chasis.

X2 on the alternator(s). There are diodes that go bad.

X-4 alternator
After you get the batteries load tested. You may want to put a float
charger on it at night because a low power condition can and will
kill the FICM in short order. I would not call that a fix just a very temp
bubble gum job.

If you want to go cheap, Harbor Freight has a little float charger for $4.99 on sale. I use it app. once a month overnight just to keep the batteries topped off. Have left it on a spare mc battery for months with no ill harm. If you lose it or it's stolen no biggy.

I saw somewhere on here someone had a float charger tied into the block heater. Thought that was a great idea.

Interesting

Wonder how that worked?????

A 12volt DC battery tender

VS

A 120volt AC Block heater (was it the OEM Coolant heater??)

Did they just tye the 2 Plug ends together??? so both would come on at same time

How often do you drive the truck?????

Short drives are also hard on Batterys

I wouldnt think you need a Float charger if you drive the truck atleast once a Month

In fact you really should try to drive it every 2 weeks. It will keep batterys toped off

But really you need to drive it that often to Excersize the turbo Veins if they sit for long periods the Turbo Veins will Rust and Seize

Also good to Drive it and throw a oil around on the seals and stuff like that

New batterys in the spring I believe. Its running real good, no issues yet, the alternater was just starting to go it was charging 99% of the time, then the battery light would come on always less then a minute the lights would dim then the battery light would turn off and lights would return to normal brightness, both batterys where load tested and where fine. Hope I don't run into any issues, but I do have a mechanic that can do anything I need to my 6.0.

I drive the truck at least once a month, more like once a week

I live in a rural area, 9.5 miles of gravel before I hit pavement, so truck sees at least 20+ miles each drive

Truck has mostly highway miles, 145 000 and still original brake bads
