I am preparing to install a factory 4bbl intake on a newly rebuilt 390. I would like to remove the little bypass tube and replace it before installing, so I don't have any suprise leaks. Any tips for removing it and what do I replace it with and what do I seal it with?
Guess you mean the water bypass, A good fix is by tapping it out and put in a pipe plug.
But don't forget you also must do the same to the water pump too.. I've only seen this done with racing motors that run an open type thermostat so they don't have high water back pressure built up until the thermostat opens. Its there for a good reason. Yes it's a pain in the *** to deal with this why guy go to the lighter Aluminum intakes..orich
That tube is a press fit, and I believe there are replacements available. I think the one method I've heard about was to put the entire manifold in the oven, heat it up and the tube gets loose enough to pull out. A slide hammer, and a washer thick enough and just big enough to match the inside diameter of the hole, and it should come out. Putting it back, same deal, warm up the manifold, and smack the new one in - carefully
Don't use a torch. Or at least, be careful if you do...

The originals are expanded into the manifold to seal it, it's like the opposite of a compression fit and no additional sealer is needed. I use No 2 Permatex non-hardening sealer when I replace mine.
