i have a 1988 f-250 with a 460 motor. i have fuel and i have fire. and the truck starts with i prime it. i tried looking for the crank sensor but can't find it. i looked behind the balancer and i didnt feel any wires or anything. i checked on the sides of the motor nothing. it has a new coil pack and ignition mod. fuel pump and starter. what else can it be?
The crank sensor is inside the distributor and called a PIP sensor. The PIP sensor is mounted on the stator assembly.
An 1988 460 does not have a coil pack so I do not know what you changed.
Could be a bad computer but you need to look at some troubleshooting first.
Do the fuel pumps run for one second each time the key is turned on?
Does the fuel pumps run if pin #6 of the test plug is grounded and the key turned on?
If no to the above two questions have you checked the fuel shut-off switch?
If no to the above questions on pump running have you checked the small black wire with a green stripe leaving the NEG post of the battery?
yes it does have a coil pack cause it has the wire from the distrubtor going to it. we think its the fuel relay. cause i was driving down the road and (being a child at heart) i gave it a quick reave before i pulled in the driveway. right after i did that it died. i wire the fuel pump directly to the battery with a toggle switch. but i decided to check to see if its getting fire just to rule it out and when i did it didnt even give me a spark. so now am thinking the coil pack is out or the ignition mod. i was a chevy guy before this truck but i wanted to give ford a chance. and i instantley fell in love with this truck. but this stuff is kinda new to me, especially eletronics
